Background
Imogen's first experience of salsa was an Afro-Cuban
dance workshop 20 years ago. She then started taking classes
in Brighton in 1994 with Colombian teacher Elder Sanchez and
Cuban teachers Clemente and Piru. In 1998 she began promoting
salsa events and classes in London. She co-founded Salsa-UK
in 1999 and was co-director of both Salsa-UK and the
UK Salsa Congress until
2005.
The UK Salsa Congress
Imogen directed
and organised the first ever UK Salsa Congress in 2002 and
continued to manage this event for four consecutive years.
This weekend festival of salsa music and dance featured the
finest salsa dancers, teachers and bands from all over the
world and attracted over 2000 attendees.

Congress dancers/teachers
included Edie the Salsa Freak, Tropical Gem, Johnny
Vasquez, Juan Matos, Nelson Flores, Frankie Martinez, Marchant
Birch, Janet & Rafael, Susana Montero, SuperMario, Leon
Rose and Moe Flex. Congress bands included The Spanish
Harlem Orquestra, Johnny Polanco, Azuquita, Alex
Wilson and Roberto Pla.
Skills and experience
Imogen's organisational skills span from event management,
operations, marketing and PR, financial control and accounts
of limited companies. At the Congress she recruited, trained
and directed teams of over 70 staff and volunteers, co-ordinated
the registration, accommodation and transportation procedures,
designed the Congress event brochure and compered at the event.

Portfolio of events
During her time directing Salsa-UK, Imogen ran dance holidays
to Spain (Salsa Med) and , Cuba, as well as weekend festivals
and tours such as Salsa Brava and Edie
the Salsa Freak. Her portfolio of weekly salsa clubs and
classes includes the infamous Bar Lorca on Saturday nights
in Brixton, often featuring live salsa bands, the Finca (now
Clockwork bar) in Islington, Salsa Slam events across London
and longstanding, popular events in Croydon and Bromley. Bromley
Salsa is still running as a weekly night on Tuesdays,
now managed by London-Salsa,
with special parties on Friday nights.
